It is fall. The leaves are changing, the air is frosting, and candy will soon be 50% off. There is so much to be excited for and much to be thankful for, so many joys of Fall! But we also have a privilege that we get to partake in come November.
Let’s be honest, our country is a little torn right now, and I for one just can’t wait for Christ to return and make all things new. No Republicans, no Democrats. Just Jesus reigning on the throne. But in the meantime it is such a blessing that we have the freedom and the opportunity to have a say in what our Government does.
As a non-profit I cannot advocate for a party, but I can encourage you to vote. There are many out there who say that it is your responsibility to vote. I disagree. We have the freedom to vote, or not vote. But we also have the freedom to suffer the consequences from not having a say in what our government does. As the nation becomes more polarized it becomes clear that the moral, ideological, and social direction of our nation is being questioned and decided with how elections go now, and as Christians we can exercise our call to be light in the world by voting.
But why is it not a responsibility then? Let me start by emphasizing, I believe that voting is so important, but it is a privilege. It is a unique opportunity that we have that most in the world do not. If we don’t like something, we have the chance to change it and make it better.
However, if we do not take advantage of our privilege, then we have a responsibility not to complain. If you can’t even vote for what you believe in, then you have no right to say anything to disagree with what the Country and the Government are doing. You had your chance to speak by exercising your privilege to vote, and you forsook that. Bummer for you.
We are deciding right now what the world will be like for our children. Issues such as freedom of religion, the value of life, and the very construct of the family are all being questioned. I never want to see a world where my children are not able to believe in something because we did not do our part to preserve that freedom.
For those of you who plan to vote, thank you. It is everyone who speaks what they believe that makes America great, and will continue to make America great. So this fall, enjoy the colors, and the chocolate, and vote for what you believe in. We may not always have that privilege.
